Newbie on Mineral Makeup

Post by solely » Wed Feb 18, 2009 6:00 am

Hi,

I'm a total newbie in mineral makeup and came to know SN thru some forum..
It got me curious especially when i came to know that i can mixed my very own foundation thru SN.
On the other hand, i only know foundation in liquid form.. never thought that a powdery foundation will work too..
i'm looking for a very natural coverage and a quick way to do a simple everyday makeup

A short induction of myself.. i'm an Asian with combination skin, oily T-zone, enlarged pores, blemishes..

I made a quick run through in SN website and would like to find out more about mineral make up as below:

1) Is SN foundation powder SPF protected? If not, we need to wear a sunblock or to wear a SPF moisturizer?

2) How do we apply the foundation powder? do we use brush - in circular motion? which brush is recommended?

3) Will the foundation cease cos.. i have combination skin.. ?

4) with my oily T-zone, i guess I will need oil control blurring powder... how do i use this? brush it on before or after foundation?

5) wat is perfecting powder? used it like a loose powder i.e. last step when everything is done?

6) i need to get a sample set with all the colours to experiment before i know my own skin colour?

I'm terribly sorry for this long list of qns...

I'm looking forward for fellow members in SN to assist this newbie here..

Hello Solely!
I am sorry it took me so long to get to this. I honestly had your questions all answered when my mouse fell and I lost the whole page!
I will answer your questions by number, just to keep me on task and make it easier for both of us.

1.I would not rely on our foundation as a type of sunblock. Even though it contains the ingredients used in a physical sunblock, we have not had it tested for an official SPF rating.

2.Foundation can be applied with a brush. The motion that will work for you is kind of something you will just need to try out. I personally use a flat top brush for heavier coverage and a kabuki for lighter coverage. I sometimes sweep and sometimes go in a circular motion. I always shake my foundation out into a small bowl. It keeps my jar free of contamination, and it is easier to load the brush more evenly.

3. I don't think you wil experience any creasing with the foundation.

4. For a primer, you may want to sample some of the Oil Control Powder, Blur, or Perfecting Powder. All of these can go on before your foundation. We have a few who like to blend the Oil Control Powder into the foundation. It really is again one of those things you will have to test to see what works best for you.

5.Perfecting Powder and blur can be used before or after foundation. Or both, if you want. Typically, Perfecting Powder is used as a finishing powder.

6.Almost all of our Asian customers fall into some blend of Buttery gold, Warm Gold, and Ebony for color base. Then you would just need to determine the coverage level you are seeking. Lighter coverage foundations (our Original) tend to blend more with your skintone and blend away your imperfections. The heavier coverage tends to cover pretty well and obscure your skintone and imperfections, so you really need to be more accurate on your color matching.
