Best Birthday Ever!
Best Birthday Ever!
Happy Wednesday, Ladies! In honor of Karen's birthday, what was the best birthday you ever had and why! I'll share mine first to get the ball rolling. As many of you know, I'm among the many cat lovers on this forum and always have at least 3 or four living with us at any given time. My husband gave me Max, a gray Burmese kitten for my birthday in 1991. He was my ever-present chum for twelve years (including an interstate move) until he got out of the house. We were heart-broken and looked everywhere for him, to no avail. He was an indoor exotic cat, so we were afraid he'd either become lunch for a wild critter or dog, or freeze in the cold. We posted fliers and spent may hours looking for him. We finally (very sadly) gave up, and brought in two other kittens. A few months later on my birthday, a neighbor called and said he'd trapped a very skinny gray kitty in his havahart trap. My hubby took the call, so I didn't know about it. Without telling me, he and my son went to check it out, and sure enough, it was Max. Although he was scrawny and his coat was pretty dull, he was no worse for wear. Hubby and son surprised me with him (complete with bow) for my birthday. Max lived to be 15 and ruled the house until he died last spring. How often do you get the same wonderful birthday present twice?!

Re: Best Birthday Ever!
I'm a cat lover too and that's a great story!
Here's mine.........my dh and I have two daughters that we adopted from China, they are now 5 and 7. We brought our oldest home in March 2002, when she was 10 mos old. For those that aren't familiar with the process, you must travel to your child's province to meet her/him and you spend about a week there. Then you fly to Guangzhou, in Southern China where the US Consulate is to get her/his visa processed. And THEN you get to come home! All together it's about a 2 week long travel period, sometimes longer if you add in a few days of sightseeing on either end. Anyway, we left Hong Kong airport on March 15 around 9am their time and 24 hrs later landed in Chicago on March 15, at 9am CST!!! I think we crossed 8 or 9 time zones as well as the international date line. With the combination of the incredible excitement and extreme exhaustion of becoming new parents and the horrible jet lag, I completely forgot it was my birthday! I turned 40 the same day that my daughter became a US Citizen when we touched down in Chicago. I had been dreading that birthday, but now I can't think of a better way to have celebrated

Wow! Several memorable occasions on the same day. I worried about 40 also - but looking back at it from almost-54, it's getting better all the time! Lauren

Hi, Ruby,
40's had a lot of big events; 50's are kinda cool, too! Who'd have thought that in my 50's I'd start wearing makeup again (and have a blast doing it), grow my hair long for the first time in 30+ years, and be married to an almost-60 guy. I think that, barring poor health, age is what you make of it - if you think you're getting old, you start acting old. (Although, as dh points out, "mature" is different from old.) You've added two amazing new chapters to your 40's. Make it the best story ever!

Re: Best Birthday Ever!
Those are all some pretty special, and touching birthdays. It says a lot about you as women to have so many great things happen on your birthday.
I have to say that this one is tied with my 22nd (first "date" with my husband). I hung out with all of you online, got some lovely emails, and day one of the Colors for a Cure really exceeded my expectations. I feel really lucky and blessed.

lcash,
You make the next decade sound like something to very much look forward to, so thank you
I love the things you have done, especially growing your hair long again! I'm fickle w/mine, I grow it long only to cut it short again about every other year.
Ruby
PS- my younger daughter is named Lauren too!
