Back to School (Happy Sigh....)

Post by lcash » Sun Aug 24, 2008 8:06 pm

Tomorrow morning we start another school year (I'm a junior high counselor). Actually, tomorrow the kids are back - I've been working alot during the summer, but I'm not sure it qualifies when you do it with a laptop in the hammock (a little awkward, but much more pleasant than the hot school building). I've been having fun trying new combinations of SN shadows and liners this summer, and have challenged myself to at least two new looks per week. Yeah, I know, why not daily? Unlike some who throw themselves into change with abandon, I'm a little less adventurous and like to get wet a little at a time. This way I can stay in my comfort zone with "tried and true" looks every other day!! It's funny - since I've been wearing SN, I get a lot of comments that I look "happy", "well-rested", "glowing" (once asked if I was pregnant - NOT funny at 53 yo, but we'll chalk that up to a "glow"), etc. I've had comments that I have pretty eyes, but nothing specific to makeup. (That's good, right?)I've also grown my blond hair out from a short, militarily-correct style to shoulder length, for the first time since I was 24, and am just getting pretty good at styling it. All the signs of a mid-life crisis, but heck! I'm making up for lost time. 17 years in the military with a "clean with lip gloss" look is efficient, but far from glamorous, or even interesting! Actually, I'm glad to get back into the work routine. I get so much more accomplished and don't eat near as much. It'll be fun to have the kids back - with 1250 junior high students, you never know what's going to happen and life is a blast, especially since they go home to someone else! ;) Best wishes to other educators for a great school year, and congratulations to all the women who can finally send their students back to school. 8-) Lauren

Hope you can have a happy and well-rested school year (and not just look that way due to your SN makeup...)

Thanks for your good wishes, ladies. After "Back to School Night" tonight I feel like Karen needs to create another concealer color, to be named Undead. But as always, I can wake up tomorrow and try a new look (with heavier undereye concealer, most likely). L.

Haha, I definitely think "undead" would be a fantastic name for a grey-correcting concealer.

Happy Back to School, and Happy Midlife Crisis! I started mine at 29, and loving every minute of it! I hope that 29 isn't midlife for me, but you can't be too careful.

My mother is a retired teacher, and my sister is a HeadStart teacher- it's really cool to bump into their former students and see how far they've come, and see that they had at least a little bit to do with it.

Date Bait is my "undead" (fantastic name for a product by the way...Halloween is just around the corner too!)- I came up with it after about a week of not sleeping well, and just *needing* something to perk me up.

Have a wonderfully happy and safe school year- just 180 days until next summer!

Happy Back to School. I loved the suggestion for the "undead" product, as all of us have been there at somepoint or another. While you are caught up in the excitement of back to school and all the activites tied to fall ( football, etc.) you can start counting down to Christmas, it's only 117 days away.

We've survived the first week with flying colors, with a long weekend to boot! In a moment of sillies behind closed doors, I thought up a few more names of concealers, refreshers and other potions to go along with the Undead line - What the Cat Dragged In, Morning After, Dawn of the Dead, Hair of the Dog, Hangover, Wilted, Last Rose of Summer, Bleerie - and on a more positive tone, Rebirth, Reborn, Rejuvenate, ReNew, Refresh, Vital, Bloom, Balanced....
C'mon, Karen, do your magic!! Lauren
PS - got my order today from MOAC 4 - beautiful stuff! Thanks for adding the concealer brush to your line of brushes. I'll use it with all of the new concoctions you create to help us shine despite our self-abuse!

Who hoo! Congratulations! I love the names! Perfect for Halloween (my absolute favorite holiday)- or any time of the year really. Are you thinking of something like a finishing powder? What color?? If you want to PM me a pic- I'll work on something!

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!!

Actually, between Date Bate, "adjustable" foundation, blush, the new light peach concealer and a subtle hand with the eye makeup, I can usually transform myself back into the land of the living. I was just having fun with names after a particularly sleep-deprived night. I'm more prone to creativity when the mental filters are partially disabled! Feel free to use any of the names as you see fit. Here's an idea, though. I love the "how-to's" you did for shadows. What about some "how-to's" to brighten bleery eyes, make eyes look bigger (mine disappear when I smile), contour round faces to appear thinner, etc. Also, I'd love to see a "mature" moisturizer that doesn't cost a fortune, or facials scrubs/cleansers for different types of skin, masques, and anything else you can pamper us with! I appreciate your efforts and hope you have a wonderful visit with your mother-in-law. Lauren
