California Fires

Post by ladycattat » Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:42 am

I'm not sure if you guys know, but the foothills above Los Angeles are hugely, badly on fire! The La Canada fire has already burned over 25,000 acres, and is not even close to being contained! There are more horrible fires in about 4 different SoCal locations....Azusa,Rancho Palos Verde....and more.
The air quality is horrendeous. The air has been so full of smoke and ashes. Every morning for the past 4-5 days my van has been covered with ash.
We love in Monrovia, but thankfully not anywhere near the foothills, so we are safe, but I have friends in Altadena that have been evacuated.(mandatory!!!)
Please say some prayers for the victims of this horrible inferno....the homes, the wildlife, and the forests. Governer Terminator(Arnold Swartzenagger) has already declared a state of emergency. At least 2 firefighters have died so far.
This is sooo awful!

That's just awful. We have friends who just moved out to California...they're about 2 hours north of the fires, and seeing smoke and ash. It was kind of their "wow, we really live in California" moment. I can't imagine how bad it must be where you are.

It must be one of the most difficult, frustrating things to live through...I hope they get them contained soon. Stay safe! You're welcome to crash with us in cold, soggy, NY anytime.

Firefighters are heroes and I am always heartbroken when I hear of one of them dying in the line of duty. I hope that the fires end soon, and no other lives or homes are lost.
Laurie, stay safe where you are.

I will definately pray for everyone involved with those fires. I remember how scary it was in 2008 when the small rural community that I grew up in had a ranging prairie fire go through it ,2 firefighters lost their lives then also, when the supports on the bridge that they were driving across caught fire and gave way. HUGS and prayers going your way.
