Scented cream/lotion to match the perfume

Post by pinkfox » Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:21 am

With all these fantastic new fragrances (off to order a few more, lol) I'd love for Karen to come up with layering products to match-- cream/lotion and bath gel or bombs.

Yes...I'm thinking that too. I have to figure out a good way to do it. But yes- if the perfumes are popular- we'll add more things to the scent line!

Is there any way to make a concentrated 'essence' maybe a little 5ml or 10ml bottle thingy from which we could add a few drops to bathwater for a luxuriously scented soak? I'm thinking pre-made toiletries usually contain water and are therefor heavy to post. Something small and precious (and expensive!) might be a solution. It's easy to buy ready made 'base' products (shampoo, shower gel, creams etc) from all manner of suppliers (chemical free, all natural, etc) but if we could add drops of essence, we could blend them to make our own lotions and potions. (I'm thinking a lot of people who internet shop often begin to do so because they have sensitivities to certain things and want special products free from SLS, or certain oils... etc).

Here's a link to the kind of thing I'm thinking about: http://uk.lizearle.com/products_details ... =49&mnuid=
Liz Earle "Vital Oils" (aromatherapy blend in water-dispersing carrier oil).

I'm still thinking- mulling things over, trying to figure out a way to offer matches without slowing down shipping, or taking up a bunch of shelf space. I do love the mini-bottle idea...much easier and cheaper for everyone really.

Sooo...the questions I have are:
what size would you like? with the lippies we do the smaller size tubes so you can try a bit of everything. I have 2 ounce and 4 ounce bottles for something like lotions and shower gels. The scrub (if I can come up with a scrub, and that is really a pretty big if)- I'd do in 2 ounce jars because I have about 2000 of them just taking up space (I got a good deal).

The spritz- I'm with you on the alcohol free. Would you like something like a light, pretty much water based body spritz, or something a little more concentrated like a perfume? I'm just at the very very early phases of experimenting on spritzes- the chemistry of the fragrances is strange- they behave pretty unpredictably. Mica is mica is mica- they always behave pretty predictably- perfumes not so much.

I would prefer the 4oz size for the shower gel and lotion since I can see myself using them frequently! Since you already have the concentrated tubes I think the body mister idea is great! It would be nice to layer the 2 in the cooler months and offer a lighter fragrance alternative in the summer. An added benefit is it won't melt, LOL!

Had another thought - I was thinking about a story about ancient Egyptians, how in that extreme heat they used perfumes wax cones to scent their hair. I'm no expert on carrier oils for skin, but as a rough idea, how about making a body and (or) hair balm using something like best quality (non-fractioned) coconut oil - the kind that is solid at room temperature, and loading it up with the fragrance essences.

I can imagine scratching out enough to cover a fingernail, melting it on the palms of my hands and pressing the melted perfumed oils onto my skin at strategically interesting points, or similarly using a very small amount and pressing it into my hair as a scented conditioning oil. Depending on the strength of the essence used, it could be an all-over balm, or a more versatile version of the current waxy solid perfume sticks. I'm thinking, though, of something that the skin or hair will absorb the glossy, nourishing oils rather than a 'wax' which sits on the surface. That'd let it cover a larger acreage, too!

I'm with the tiny bottles idea! I'm already deeply in love with Green Tea. Yes it's subtle but I have a hyperactive nose and subtle is all I can stand. Yet I want to be fragrant. So now I am.. only not many people can smell it! =P

Btw, about the Pink Grapefruit scent, I'm wondering if the strange undercurrent of scent is from mixing it with the wax? The top note is fresh and grapefruity but there's something oddly heavy and acrid in the base notes which turns me off the scent. Anyone else smell this?

Me!

And my friend from work. He took one whiff from the wand and said "Urgh. It smells sour". I thought it was just my wand.
