I came...I saw...I VOTED

Post by Xarata » Tue Nov 04, 2008 1:06 pm

Last time I had to vote absentee so this was my first time at a poll. i was very disappointed to see campaign posters near the polling place (which apparently is a country-wide occurrence). I heard 1000 penn state students were in line at 7am to vote this morning. I am told that with an "I voted sticker" you can get Free coffee at Starbucks, Free Ben & Jerry's, and Free Krispy Kremes. They didn't give me a sticker so i just got an I voted candy bar from my mommy. lol. Cheers to all who voted today! Shame on those who are not (and can obviously, I don't blame the internationals. lol)

Haha believe me, there are quite a few internationals who wish they had the opportunity to include their vote, too ;)

I went today, too, around 11am. For the first time, I had a hard time finding a parking spot. There are three precincts at my polling place, and I was fortunate that mine was not the one with the line out the door. I did get a sticker. But had to go right home to my kiddos (we vote in the schools, so school is cancelled). Free Starbucks would have been cool! When DH goes later this evening, he will probably have to wait for a long time in line. With his job (he travels quite a bit, and sometimes last minute) he should probably always do absentee voting.

A big 'pat on the back' to the US customers who read up on the issues and exercised their privledge to vote! Great job! I have great respect for those of you who weighed your options and voted according to your beliefs, regardless of the final outcome. :D

I went in and voted about 8 am today and for the first time ever there were tons of people there! I was jazzed! All of us there just smiled at each other with sort of a *gee, this is cool face*, even though we probably didn't have the same candidate in mind....but at least we got off our butts and DID something!
And, yuppers, I got my Starbucks coffee!
I read somewhere that there was this *adult's only* store that would give you a free *toy* if you showed them your *I voted* sticker. Too bad it's only in Seattle and New York!

Don't forget (1) felons that can't vote and (2) homeless people and (3) people without proof of residency (like an electricity bill).

Let's hear it for disenfranchising the poor...

Stepping off my soapbox now.

But I voted. I was glad I got to vote.

I voted early, but there were people in line at all the polling places when I went to work and when I was coming home. I have staff who didn't vote, and wouldn't vote if given the chance, but had plenty to say about who should win the election. I have an issue with people who don't want to exercise their right to vote, my general comment is that if they don't vote, then they really shouldn't complain. On the other hand I had staff the asked to leave so that they could vote, and I let them go. Everyone should exercise this right.

yay for voting. i live in ohio and tried to go downtown to the board of elections on saturday...and turned my car right back around because the line was out the door and around the block. there are 2 precincts at my voting location, and i got there at 6:10 am this morning--there were about 30 people in front of me. by the time i finished at almost 7, there were probably 200+ people in the line. it was so cool to see so many turn out.

Yes- huge turnout. I voted at about 11:00, and I was number 433 already. Then I went to the office and did some interesting things.

hehe. i voted at 11:30 and was number 460. They opened more polling places in our area so at least i didn't have a line. Felt bad for all the people who drove to my polling place just to find that theirs had been moved to their actual town where they wouldn't have had to drive at all. Off to watch Barack's victory speech...

Well, I missed out on the Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, free taco at Taco Bell, and I think even Chick-fil-et was doing something. DH got home early from work. We went out to our favorite local restaurant and I had a choice of a free dessert or a free cocktail with my sticker. Pretty cool!
