Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
There has been a ton of tweaking going on, foundationwise. Results so far:
Ebony doesn´t work. To ashy, brown or something.
Warm gold is to warm, to ruddy in a way.
Buttery works best, but is much to yellow. I can get a way with it if I ever so lightly dust, but for concealing purposes I am stuck.
I have tried a myriad of mixes of them all, including the other two new shades. It appears I need something golden, not yellow, not ashy, not beige, not warm. I am a pain in the ass.
Tempt tryst works kindaish, but it\s to sparkly to use all over. So what is a girl to do? Gold blush is my bestest friend in the whole world, though.

Hello Aurora,
My initial thought is that you are using the Warm Gold at too dark of a mix. Buttery Gold is essentially Warm Gold plus yellow. I do know some that use a blend of Buttery and Ebony, as well as some that use a blend of Warm and Ebony for thier color base. That is about all I have for you with our current bases.
For finishing, you could use Perfecting Powder (the translucent one) either with a touch of Buttery Gold, or you could use it to cut your Tempt Tryst.

Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
Thanks Jen! Thing is, if I get my wg mix any lighter, it just ends up being a whitish cast, except when I conceal with it, then it is noticeably redder/browner than my skin. Will continue to try though.
Any plans for a more golden neutral, less yellow base? If that is even possible to make?

Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
Golden Neutral might be 1:1 Ebony and Buttery for your color base. It might be worth a shot. Actually, that is kind of what I am and I generally use some blend of Warm Gold and Ebony. Still, If you like the Buttery, maybe try mixing with some Ebony.
I know undertones can be so tricky, because most of us are a melting pot of ethnicities and live in differing environments. Once you think you have found your shade, if you sweat too much or get too much sun it can change. It is frustrating at the least, and maddening at the worst. I commend your approach for leaving no stone unturned. I hope you find your mix. Otherwise, we will have to look into what you have used in the past and how we can do that here.

Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
Thanks again, you are very helpful. How I wish that I had kept notes on all my mixes. :sigh:
Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
I know I`m nagging, but I still cannot seem to get it exactly right. Even with a gazillion blends, it seems to be a bit off somehow. So, golden, not yellow, not warm, no pink, not red. Buttery works best, but when tone is rightish, mix is to light. When depth is right, it is too yellow.

The skin tone you are describing sounds similar to mine. I can't be sure without a photo, but you sound like you have a lot of the same makeup complaints as I do. I am 1/4 Scandinavian and 3/4 German by ancestry (American by citizenship).Aurora wrote:Ooh, should have waited for even more suggestions! I made another order, in addition to my foundie and a few somethings that have slipped my mind, and got a few blush samples, the cool glam kit, and some lippies. I think I at least got Flirt, Climax, Pout and.. Wll, I forget.
Great suggestions, thanks to all of you.
Karen, that is very interesting. There is something in my tone that makes me look eiter ashy or sallow when wearing foundation, maybe this is the mixed undertones instead of being a true neutral? I do not see much pink or blue in my complexion, yet I am by no means a warm or yelllow. And not really beige either. If there was something called a slightly golden neutral, perhaps. Mixing foundation should prove very interesting.
Maggishness: I am trying to find a way out of this rainy or snowy hole myself, though I might head babck to Cambodia. Brisbane has quite a few Scandinavians, no?
I have always had a hard time finding colors because I am a "cool yellow" (actually more neutral than cool, but not your normal warm yellow tone). This means that in SN I wear 11 ivory, 1 ebony, and 1/4 buttery gold foundation mix. Yours might be similar - sure sounds like it. Try mixing something similar to that and see how it goes.
Re: Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help
Zeebs suggestion is good. But if you have tried blends of the color base and they were not quite right, I am not sure what to suggest next. Without seeing a pic of you, it is a bit of a challenge for me. If you want to send me one,PM me, and I will give you my emil. In all honesty, occasionally the only way to get a perfect match with tricky undertones is to see you in person.
I do wonder if a touch of Peach color base would counteract the yellow you describe. I know that I used to wear more yellowish foundation to cut the red in my face, I wonder if it works the other way?
