date bait questions and other questions

Post by Roberta » Fri May 30, 2008 3:57 am

Hi, I am new to mineral powders and just stumbled upon this site this morning. I really don't know the difference between a mineral powder and a regular powder. I am looking for a nice matte powder with just the slightest hint of pink. Many years ago I bought a beautiful loose powder by Estee Lauder that came in a fancy glass container, it was a large quantity, and it was very slightly pink. From what I am reading about the date bait, this is also slightly pink. I don't want PINK powder, but just something very soft and warm looking. My coloring is: blue-gray-green eyes, dark brown hair, fair skin with no color. If I don't wear blush, I have no color at all. My skin tends to be oily, although I am older now and my skin maybe isn't as oily as when I was younger. I am now 48. Do you recommend the date bait or a different powder? I don't wear foundation; I just can't be bothered. I also wear a bit of blush. The colors I generally wear are muted roses or a color that Revlon has called Pink Peony. It sounds to me like the Climax blush color would be suitable and everyone raves about it, but I wanted to ask your opinion. I would never tell anyone the name of the color if they asked, though! (No offense!) Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forum, Roberta.

From your description of what you are seeking, Date Bait may just fit the bill. It is soft pink with a slight glow, but nothing too shiney. It is more of a warm glow in my opinion. I will say it is not what I would call matte, but it is the product that drew me in to Silk Naturals in the first place. The silk will help control oil, and it will be gentle to your skin. Other ingredients help to diffuse light and blur fine lines. It can easily be a stand alone product, and the original Perfecting Powder was designed that way. Karen offers such reasonable options for samples, it is worth a try.

Climax will be a good choice for blush. Also, you might want to give Flirt a try.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for your response. Now I am having second thoughts about the face powders. I really don't want even a hint of shine. My skin is already oily, and since I am not young with smooth, perfect skin, any illumination just doesn't work with me. I need matte, matte, matte. Perhaps because of the mica base of the mineral cosmetics, pure matte isn't possible, I don't know. Please let me know if you have anything that is pure matte with no shine. :?:

Thank you for the suggestion about Flirt. It is a very pretty color.

Whatever I order for myself that doesn't work, my daughter will GLADLY take, so nothing will be wasted! :D That is one of the nice things about having a daughter! (I also have four sons.)

Roberta, please grab a sample of Date Bait & see how it is on *your* skin! We're all different, & I'm older than you are, & my skin is very dry but can sometimes look shiny from whatever moisturizer I use that day..& Date Bait cuts shine for me, in that case. Absolute worst case scenerio, you &/or your daughter can use it on your eyes. Please don't think sparkly or shiny. In *every* pic of me plastered all over this forum,LOL, I am wearing it.

hi roberta,

in contrary to your perception of date bait, it helps controls shine.

i think date bait will really suit u, becos:

- date bait is actually a perfecting powder that has silk in it, so it curbs shine caused by oily-ness
- u're very very fair, so the other blushes may look really bright on you. whereas date bait is a very very soft color when u spread it just on cheekbones and contouring your face, all like me i use love lure (a golden version of date bait) lightly all over to curb mid day shine, and give me a radiant look.
- its no where shiny, glittery or disco ball, does not make you look shiny a la when the oil monster is out. just a very radiant look.
- cos you're very fair, i believe a bit of blush will look a lot on you. so after applying the blush, sometimes u might find that there's too much or a significant patch, then u can sweep some date bait over and you'll look very natural.

hmmmm how do i explain this betta... haha! a moment ago over the phone, i was just trying to tell my friend the difference between the perfecting powder and the foundation and she's having the same impression as you LOL!

i would say the kind of radiant would be like baby skin kinda glow by itself from within and not disco ball or oily kinda glow. so relax and have fun! afterall, there's the sample size for you to try =D

have fun! i believe u and your daughter will love it too =D

I think I am getting it. Not shiney, but "Fresh, like you just got out of the shower" - is that it?

My question is....I have a very dry skin. Not oiliness or whatsoever....My face sweats alot....Most of the products controls oiliness...So, can i still used perfecting powder?
So, now some of you probably knows why i'm a lip addict.

Yes! Yes! Yes! My skin is dry & none of the finishers make me drier; they keep my skin more comfortable. I've read that silk kind of "balances", & it seems true in my case.

Yep. It's more "youthful" or "fresh" than anything else.

Silk Powder is awesome in that it absorbs or releases moisture as needed based on its environment. Basically it keeps the equilibrium. It'll help absorb the moisture from sweating w/o taking the natural moisture out of your skin! Great stuff, right? :)
