How do I use BHA toner

Post by fairyfli » Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:19 pm

Hey,
I have a quick question... How do you use the BHA toner??? Does it interact negatively with the super serum? I was not sure if I could use this everyday or twice a week or what... I do like it for ingrown hairs though that is great :) Does it help with skin turnover? Ok that is all of my questions thanks!

The thing with BHA is that it's anti-bacterial, and it dissolves oil inside the pores- so if you have oily skin, or are super acne prone- it's mild and gentle enough to use it every day. If you have drier skin it may be best as a once a week, or spot treatment just on your nose type thing. It does sorta help with skin turnover- not quite as much as the AHA though. It *does* interact with the Super Serum- so Super Serum during the day and BHA at night would be my recommendation.

It does interact with the Super Serum and will turn your face red and hot. (Ask me how I know...I forgot, once.) I use the Super Serum in the morning, and the BHA at night. It is a chemical exfoliant, so it does help a little with skin turnover, and it also helps clean out the pores. It is a better choice than AHA for oily blemish prone skin. I am more dry, so I mostly use AHA. I do have mild Keratosis Pilaris, and BHA is great for that condition.

I would cleanse, put some BHA on a cotton pad, and gently rub it on my face. After about 15 minutes, you can proceed with the rest of your routine. I have at times felt the need to rinse it off before moving on with the next steps, but that was early in usage, or if I had not used it for a while. I would start at every other night. If that seems too much (and your skin will let you know), go every third. It may be that you can handle it every day, but take it slowly.

Edited to add: Karen and I must have posted at about the same time...... ;)

To extend that same question, how would I integrate an AHA and a BHA into a basic routine in terms of using them in conjunction with each other (I know where they go in the sequence, but when should I use either one or both)?

And just to be complicated, ;) how to I use the Pore Refining Toner for a short length of time (2 bottles worth) as a 'treatment' whilst beginning to use acids to exfoliate?

I'm happy with a quick foaming wash cleanse in the morning followed by serum and moisturiser. For night time, I precede that with a wash-off oil cleanser. I use the microdermabrasion 'scrubby' cream maybe once a week - but it could really do with more often. I've used heavy-duty AHAs on occasion before without a problem overnight.

I know about avoiding using the Super Serum with the acids, so for the time being I plan to switch to the VitC-Peptide-maybe with DMAE for 'extra' help. My trusted staples are to use GT&A serum with Jojoba moisturiser. Now that my skin is balanced, acne is not a frequent problem but I am becoming aware that I need to step up my skincell turnover and waken up my complexion.

Ta. :)

Hi Cupcake,

You should not have to give up your Super Serum......just use the AHA or BHA at night and the Super Serum in the morning after a good cleansing. Just use the AHA or BHA after cleansing in place of the PRT. Let them sit on the skin for about 20 minutes. You can rinse them off if you are feeling a bit reactive, or just leave it on....and then proceed with serums and moisturizers.

Pore Refining Toner can be used in the day time or on the evenings you skip AHA or BHA.
