Hello!

I've been lurking for a bit and finally ordered the Perfect Harmony sample kit and an extra sample of Ivory, because I'm sooo light.

I was hoping that some of you might have some input based on the photos below on a mix to start with. I have been trying to find a match in EDM, and haven't had any luck. Fawn seems to be the right level of yellow, but it's too dark and Golden Fair is still too dark and a little too pink. As you can see, my face is waaaayyy more pink than my neck and chest and I've got quite a few acne scars and freckles to deal with. I've ordered samples of both the Original and Medium coverage bases. Not sure if I should also try out heavy. Any help you all could provide would be much appreciated. (Hopefully the photos will work...for some reason the lighting was completely different through different windows on the same side of the house.)

Hi and welcome to Silk Naturals. Our moderator, Jen, is fantastic at suggesting foundation blends and I'm sure she'll jump in with a great answer for you really soon.

Meantime, in the top photo, your skin looks a lot like mine except that I'm slightly paler. I found that Unblush redness corrector is great but I mix it 50:50 with the yellow Sleep in a Jar to make a sort of 'lemon and lime' colour which is softer than the pure green for counteracting redness. Yellow also works well to counter redness on fairer skins, either product (or a mix of both) could help you.

I use Buttery Gold, 2 scoops to a whole bag of medium ivory foundation, so I'd guess you'd want a few more scoops of colour base per bag than me. If you can counteract the pinky-red in your skin, it might be easier to balance your foundation colour. I'm the same, neck an chest are a bit different to my face (which is pinker). I'll leave that suggestion to Jen though as there's a few things you can try and she'd know best which will work. Good luck

If you're truly as yellow as the second pic seems, then I think you might be a buttery gold. But samples are cheap, so my best advice is to pick up samples of Ebony, Buttery, and Warm Gold - if you're fair the colour samples will last for ages, anyway.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess here that you might be 1 buttery gold to maybe 10 or 12 ivory, or maybe 1 buttery and 1 warm gold to about 20 ivory - that's for the medium formula. Start with a half scoop of buttery to 10 ivory, use an eye shadow brush to streak some across your jawline or forehead, give it ten or fifteen minutes to blend with your natural skin oils, and see how it looks. If it's the wrong tone entirely, then you should be able to fix that small an amount with warm gold, but you look more buttery to me - at least in the second pic. And you can always add more ivory if it's a bit dark.

If you're more cool toned, or if your skin changes in winter, I'd guess 1 ebony to about 10 - 12 ivory.

I am so glad you took two pics. The second is probably more in line with the color you describe wearing in another line. Without that second pic, yellow foundations don't seem to make much sense.

Rhys is pretty much right on. I would start with Buttery Gold, too. Half a scoop Buttery to 10 Ivory sounds like a good place to start (half scoops just require kind of eyeballing it). If you did decide that the Buttery Gold is not yellow enough, we do also have a yellow color booster. Surprisingly, there are several caucasian women who need it. If Buttery Gold is too yellow, then Warm Gold will be better in a similar ratio.

I think the yellow might be enough to counteract the pink. If you find it is still not quite right, you may need to try Olive, or there are other things we can try with powder primers or Unblush.

Wow, thanks so much to all of you for the help!!!! I can't wait to get my package and start playing! It's such a struggle to find something both light enough and yellow enough, I'm really hoping this will work! I'll let you know how the mixing goes.

I think it'll work out. The reason I suggested starting with a half scoop - which will probably be too light - is to make sure it's the right tone. So if it looks like the buttery belongs on your face, just eyeball another half scoop and throw it in. If, OTOH, it's just wrong, then half a scoop of buttery is a small enough amount that throwing in a scoop of warm gold should cover it fine.

So get the tone first - you'll be able to tell! - and then go for the colour depth. I don't think you'll need the unblush or yellow corrector, either. And you're so CUTE - maybe grab a sample of Satisfied blush to go with the lot
