I hope this thread finds our New Zelanders in safety. They had a big aftershock in Christchurch. I hope all is well with you!

Yeah, hugs from Scotland, too. My parents have got old friends in Christchurch and they're kinda worried for them. They should still be away on holiday in Oz but aren't sure. All our close family are safely up north on North Island. Heart goes out to those affected.

Wow, I am glad you posted this, Jen. I know we have a lot of New Zealanders here......praying for one and all to be safe!

DH's family is on the North Island, so they are safe...but we have friends scattered all around NZ so have been checking in on them. DH's old piano teacher lives in Christchurch and their flat was damaged, though they aren't sure how much. They are staying with family in the highlands until things settle down and (hopefully) the aftershocks pass...

Christchurch is one of the 2 cities we were considering to live in when we move back, and it's very dear to our hearts, so watching the news and seeing pics from acquaintances is especially hard. Our thoughts are certainly with those who have lost their lives in the disaster... Hope our Kiwi members and their family/friends are okay!

It's so heartbreaking to see. The hotel chain I work for has a hotel in Christchurch, all of the staff and guests got evacuated safely, but now the hotel is looking like it is going to collapse. And it's one of the tallest buildings, so it's apparently hampering some rescue efforts, as they evacuated the rescuers from the area. My thoughts are with everyone there, and I hope no more lives are taken.
