moisturizer/serum advice

Post by missyjean » Sun Apr 04, 2010 3:57 am

I'm interested in finding a new moisturizer! Now,I'm oily and acne prone...but flaky at the same time. I exfoliate because I break out,but even after the most gentle exfoliation methods my skin is still flaky and an unsuitable canvas for this great mineral Makeup =(

So I've decided that maybe a different moisturizer will help me.It's not that easy for me to just pick up anything for me. I don't get tiny little hormonal pimples. I get huge, inflamed zits that pop up on a regular basis. So buying anything new is a very scary experience! I'm 19,and have gone through many cosmetic procedures (peels, microdermabrasion, light therapy)...even a good round of accutane. Tons of money has been dumped into finding a cure. Frankly, I'm tired of it all. I don't care about curing it. All I want is it not to get too much worse and to prevent scarring. So please,my interest here is not finding a new product to help acne =)

The only ingredient in some of the things here that worries me is the tamarind seed extract. I have no clue what that is! I also do not think my skin likes anything with seaweed or kelp.I could be wrong, but I don't care to find out.So any suggestions? Something for oily, yet flaky skin that won't make me break out in a bunch of cystic pimples =)

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I also use Kiss My Face break-out gel UNDER a moisturizer. This contains xanthan gum and I have no idea if your moisturizers absorb through it.

I have very similar skin, I found more moisturisation helped the flakiness and the oiliness! I'm 21 and still not out of mad hormonal skin I still get plenty of pimples. The AHA will probably break you out a little to begin with but really does work wonders. It gets rid of flakes and helped my pimples. It's supposed to be good for scarring too.

To begin with I just cleansed then wiped it on my face at night then went to bed, and I'd wake up and not have to scrub! Now I moisturise about 20-30 mins after and it's still working well.

The BHA toner's antibacterial so that should help, and the super serum's so so great! I'll be back on the hemp soon when it starts warming up, it's really lovely! And the green tea and aloe's perfect after exfoliation with an acid.

I've put this in another post but aspirin masks with honey are great for deflaking and moisturising

Tamarind seed extract is a natural, plant-based humectant, as the name implies. It has been shown to improve skin hydration and elasticity, and outperforms HA in terms of smoothing fine lines.

I would join a 12 step program for my SN addiction, but 12 steps are for quitters!

So after all this time I finally got a sample of the green tea and aloe serum. I can use it alone as long as I'm over my dry period after my chemical peels. I like that it soaks right into your skin, you can't feel any film being left behind.

I also got a sample of the apricot cleansing oil.I came home after work when my skin was an oil slick and I had tons of primer/eyeshadow on. It took it all off without leaving a greasy feeling behind.Hopefully it won't break me out in the future, since my face is fickle. Jojoba oil breaks me out even though it's technically not supposed to...
Since it's so gentle,it doesn't leave my face more red after each wash.

So after my chemical peels,I definitely need something more for moisture. How is the oatmeal moisturizer in comparison to the aloe and green tea? I know it's supposedly more moisturizing, but to what degree? I've also did a lot of thinking about the regular moisturizers, and I think I've narrowed down to just the hemp moisturizer. Now,I've never heard of acne-prone folks using this ingredient in the few years I use to live on an acne forum,so I'm not so sure about it. Are there any people with moderate acne on these boards that have used it with success? Or if someone can explain to me why hemp isn't pore clogging...so I can have some peace of mind. :)

Thanks all!
