grey eyeshadows, advice, comparison

Grey is an interesting option, not too bold, but a smokey or shimmery one is perfect to go out... at least I think so, I am more or less new at eyeshadows! I'm considering taking a couple of greys. As one-colour washes (with eye-liner however, yes). Blending dark colours is right now something I'm unable to do!
So, could anyone tell the difference between Platinum and Silver lining? And are they pretty one-colour washes or can't they work this way? (if you think it depends on the colour or fairness of the eyes or skin or whatever, please say what works best).
Is Alloy totally wearable to work, and long-lasting? I have to say I am impressed by the lasting power of, say, Taupetastic, without a base!
Any other beautiful greys you would advise?
Thanks for your help!
