Hi Everybody...thanks for all your support and prayers and kind words. This whole thing has been such a nightmare. My brother didin't have any life insurance, and he also hadn't ever gotten around to getting a will done.
......Please, everybody, even if you're young and healthy.......please consider getting or upping your life insurance, and make sure you have a will. It was such a shock that none of his affairs were in order, and it's the surivors that have to deal with the mess that's left.
I wrote and read the eulogy on Sunday evening for the memorial service.. Monday was the day that he was cremated, but frankly, I just couldn't deal with that, so I stayed home and just cried.

And tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. You never know when their time will come.

I'm glad to see you surface. It sounds like a royal mess...it always is, but yeah, without a will and some insurance it makes it a lot more difficult (my father didn't have them either). Depending on your niece's age she may be able to collect on his Social Security.

I'm glad to see you back Laurie, I've been thinking of you.
I agree about getting things in order - my friend's dad passed away suddenly a few years ago and although I'm sure he had life insurance, they didn't know anything about what he wanted for arrangements, where he wanted to be buried, etc. It was hard for his family to make those decisions because they didn't know what he wanted. He'd always refused to talk about it when they asked him. :(
