Dance recital - procrastination

Post by krenee » Thu May 07, 2009 6:56 pm

Here I am - a week from dance pictures and 2 weeks from dance recital (for daughter) and I am loathe to spend any more money on dance. Between tuition, costumes, shoes, tights, recital tickets and pictures still upcoming, it has been ridiculously expensive this year, to say the least. However, daughter has decided she wants "light purple and dark purple" eyeshadow this year. She also wants a "dark pink or hot pink" lipstick. She is 8, but they want them to wear makeup that shows up for pictures and the recital. I sent Karen an email about this too, but I just read the update and therefore know she is busy atm - and if I have any chance of getting it I need to get ordering this today or tomorrow.
Anyone have any ideas of colors ?? I had Rapture in mind, but all the lipsticks and Kiss Bliss are off the site right now. Any glosses that would be a good choice? Something fairly opaque that will show up would be best. She has 3 costumes, so I will be changing her costumes between dances and can reapply. I don't have a lot of lipsticks that are that color (I am more of a "Birthday Suit" type of gal.) Any ideas for anything appreciated at the moment, really. I figured I would get her a blush sample of something like Tart or Babydoll (not my colors either). But suggestions on the other items like e/s, lippie etc would be GREAT.
I really should not put it off like this, but like I said, I guess I am hoping this year if I ignore this dance stuff it will go away. (LOL, guess not.) Don't get me wrong, I think dance is fun and good for the girls but our dance teacher seems to be overpriced more than most and the teacher is needing a knee replacement (and she isn't that old), soon I think, and so I have been paying full price all year for high school aged girls to teach her. The dance studio is in the teacher's house in her basement and I have a pretty good idea that she is not down there for all the classes, especially the younger girls. There is one girl I work with who is taking her girls there this year. Last year they went to a different studio that closed. She said she cannot even tell her husband how much it costs (she has 2 girls in it) because it is so much more than last year at the other studio that he would freak!!
:(
If I can get the makeup taken care of, all I have to find is glitter spray, now. Last time I paid the teacher $10 or $12 for it, only to realize afterward that the pricetag from where she had bought it was still on the can and she had paid $2.99 for it!!
GRRR.
Anyway, any help appreciated, really - Thanks in advance!!!

Ha ha, right after I posted this, I got Karen's reply to my email! She suggested Raindrops on Roses with baby doll blush. I think that would prob be a good choice. I would still love to hear anyone's suggestions on what they think would look cute. I am fairly conservative so I don't really look at some of the brighter e/s colors but I bet there are some that would be a lot of fun.

If you wanted something on the cooler side you could go with Very Berry and Cosmic. I would put Breathe eyeshadow with this grouping for a little girl. (My first choice was Butterfly Blue-ff, and Very Berry contains carmine.)

For an eyeshadow with Babydoll and Raindrops, I think Purr would be cute (not overly bright, though, but great on the layered color with sparkle). It could also double as a glow powder. Mirabelle would be another pretty lippie....a corally hot pink. Playfull is another cute pink eyeshadow, as is Hint. Hint is a frosty pink with a hot pink morph.

Thank you Jen -
funny you mention Breathe - I was just looking at that one and thought it seemed fun.
Do you think Very Berry would show up pretty well?

Yes. It is a bright pink, but not so bright that I could not wear it. It has a really cool blue sheen to it.

I agree about Raindrops on Roses. It is pretty wearable for a rosey pink IMO. It'll look nice for dance without being OTT which was always a huge problem for me when I was in dance competitions and recitals - the colors those stage moms would choose for us, ugh (AND it was the 80s so holy frosty blue eyeshadow!!). I don't know much about purple e/s since it's not my favorite.... I will say that Vineyard would be a good choice since it's pretty on just about every skin tone, is subtle but def purple, and you could wear it as part of your conservative makeup routine after dance is done - but, it may not be the "fun" little girl color you are looking for. But RoR is a good lippie choice.

OK, I just ordered, really quickly (work gets in the way of what I need to do, UGH, LOL)
Since I was not sure what she'd end up liking I picked Baby doll and Raindrops on Roses, Cosmic and Very Berry, and Gemini and Whirlwind. She picked Escape and Vacation and Whirlwind for herself. She saw Jen's photo with those colors and liked them. (she's picky for a little girl, and going to be handful when she gets to be a teenager...!) however, Whirlwind may be more brown that what will end up working, but I think I could wear that one - so - I am assuming she will like RoR or Very Berry and choose one of those - we'll see. I also got Amethyst liner and some Chiffon. I am sure there are things I forgot to order, since I just ordered really quickly, but I think I hit what I needed anyway.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I really thought Breathe would be cute but she liked the Escape and Vacation better - so... (LOL)

She is a girly girl!!! And she knows what she likes. I think Whirlwind will be nice, too. It really isn't very brown.....more plum. It only looks brown in the swatch because Bloom and Very Berry are super pink. If I had to pick a fave of the most recent release, it would be Whirlwind......(or maybe Caramel). Bloom is also a great color for her, but probably not for a dance recital.

I hope she loves them!

She does know what she likes, already! I showed her the photo of Breathe and it was "it's pretty but I want something a little darker." It was funny because when she was talking about lip gloss she was saying something about it being a little darker and instead of saying a shade or 2 darker I think she was calling it "steps" - as in a step or 2 darker, or something. I am thinking, "How do you know this at 8?" LOL
everything tends to look different from person to person of course anyway - so I'll just let her try them and see what she likes best.
Found glitter spray today at Walgreens, so I am hoping I am almost done now.
