VitC Serum - prepare for a stampede!

Post by Cupcake » Mon Apr 13, 2009 8:15 am

Umm... you'd better brace yourself, SN ladies, because if the results that I've had on my irritable oily, sensitive, crater-like pore skin is anything to go by, you might be facing a stampede of orders. 8-)

I started using the Aloe and Green Tea serum about a fortnight ago and it immediately had a major improvement in reducing that "reflective shiny" skin surface appearance I have. The chronic dehydration was gone in a couple days. In conjunction with using the microdermabrasion cream 2-3 times a week, the results are so good as to have been unprecedented. Not even the big salon brands sold on QVC helped this much.

Today's news - about five days into using the VitC serum instead of the Aloe & Green Tea, I've noticed that the *seriously* large pores on my nose and spreading onto the inner edges of my cheeks - they've been reduced in size significantly. I'd say by maybe a third. My nose has been ugly with large pores which catch all the gunk ever since I was about 12, no matter how clean, no matter what I use from pore-strips to clay masks to oh all sorts! Cleanliness isn't the problem, those pores stretched so much that I thought they'd never tighten up again.

Well, they have! I don't honestly know whether to attribute it to the base ingredients common to both of Karen's serums, or if it's specifically the VitC, but the VitC has made a distinct difference in clarity, skin tone evenness and, for want of a better way to describe it, it's that "looks like you've had two weeks stress-free holiday" glow.

From my understanding of how the skin works, the underlying re-balancing of the sebum production causing the output to slow down has un-stressed the cellular tissue around the pores and allowed the fluid balance inside the cells to regulate themselves instead of diverting their function to aid the sebum output instead. It's not that the VitC tightens pores, it's that the wide pores are a structural defect side-effect caused by the way the skin adapts to not keep the pores tight because it's busy doing something more important instead. Regulating the balance allows all functions to return to normal, so the cells around the pores repair and regain their proper function and, gradually, pore size is restored. I've been using Proline amino acid in solution to assist cellular reproduction to boost the collagen production at base level in optimising the hydroxyproline used for cell-building (Prolagene Gel). However, although that was the best product of it's type, only Karen's serum is the first I've ever come across to address all the issues at once, from optimising the collagen production (allowing cells to form as strong and healthy as possible) while also addressing the surface imbalance with sebum and cellular hydration being brought into balance. The effects I've seen only happen when everything is fixed at once, otherwise some part stays imbalanced.

I need to use aloe vera somewhere in my routine as while using the VitC, the reflectiveness has started to reappear, so I am seeing a difference in the results between the two serums. But wow! Just wow! The combination of ingredients in the VitC seems to have exactly hit the nail on the head because that's reducing my pores in less than a week, with no other routine change other than introducing the Microdermabrasion Cream. I'd heartily recommend this for unbalanced, sensitive, oily-dehydrated skins. *hugs Karen*

Well, thank you so much Helena, my skin sounds almost exactly like yours... and I was wondering about the VitC serum.
I just ordered a sample of the aloe and green tea, but I think my next order will include the VitC...

I'm usually just "lurking around", and your posts always make me want to buy some new stuff!
You totally sold me this serum!!!

(I apologize if everything doesn't "sound" quite english, I'm french and still learning!)

*Grumble, Grumble, Grumble*

My skin sounds just like yours helene. Large pores on my nose, chin, part of cheek near the nose (apple of the cheek) and on the side of cheek (acne problem area there). I have the aloe serum and the vitc serum. I've been using the aloe serum but I didn't have the chance to use the vitc yet. But I did give it to my mother to try and she loved it sooo much that I gave it to her!!!!!!! ARRRRRRHHHHHHHHH

Well she ordered a sample of it at the weekend so I'm nicking that one when it arrive!!!

Thanks Helene for the heads up on the serum

I'm glad it's working for you!! The pore issue is most likely a result of the increased hydration from the serum...when skin gets dehydrated the pores open up and start producing more oil. The vitamin c is just one of those ingredients that's good for everything- kind of like green tea, and I do like that glow!

Ghost- don't feel too bad. My mother took my first bottle of C serum too. I was shocked- she never uses lotion of any sort on her face.

Okay I am so sold on this serum.

I can admit this but (don't boo me) I brought two serums just for the hell of it, not expexting much. I've never used serums before and have never heard of them. But since helena's post I managed to steal my vitc back and I have used it for the pass two day (day and night, hope thats okay?). All I can say is WOW. The serum was great for my mum (never uses lotion and she smokes so quite a few wrinkles there) a big improvement. Now when I use it, my large annoying pores have descreased in size by half after the first day.

I'm sold, my mother who again NEVER uses lotions and potions is sold and as soon as we're both paid, I know we're getting a bottle each.

It's fine to use them day and night, Ghost - most of us need to, really. Your skin wants hydrating 24 hours per day and there's nothing in any of the serums to hurt you - quite the opposite.

I have very very dry skin (even if yours isn't it still needs hydration) and I generally use the Vit C + a moisturising serum mixed with oil + a spritz of hydrosol + cream (non-commercial) + eye serum daytimes, and do the same at night except with the DMAE. When I run out, it'll probably be DMAE morning and night, plus hydrating serum with oil, plus hydrosol plus cream.

You don't want to know what the routine was like when the eczema was still in full flare, it'd frighten you! But it worked, and I did get my skin back. I used to do some work for Garden of Wisdom, which also does natural skin care, and all the clients I worked with needed at least hydration both day and night - and I'm not one to try to oversell stuff.

But if your skin isn't threatening to fall off, the Vit C alone should provide enough moisture, or add in the Green Tea, Rose, or Oatmeal if you need a bit more. And by all means use them morning and evening.

I'm tickled you're seeing such good results, too :)

Can this be layered with the DMAE serum or should they be used separately, say one in AM and the other PM?

Karen's the formulator, but to me the serums look pretty identical save that the Vit C Peptide doesn't have DMAE in it. The DMAE serum seems to have all the same goodies as the Vit C Peptide plus DMAE.

I don't see any harm in layering them, but if you're short of cash and - ahem - of a certain age, you might save a little cash just using the DMAE.

Rhys is right...they're identical except for the DMAE. Sure you can layer them, but it's not at all necessary- either the Vitamin C, or the DMAE should be all you need.
