Does anybody know of a good homemade mask for exfoliation (specifically for treatment of milia)? I have been reading that AHA is good for treating/preventing milia and am wondering if anyone knows of a nice gentle (effective???) recipe that can be used near the eyes.
Thanks!
homemade mask for milia treatment?
Re: homemade mask for milia treatment?
I don't remember this clearly, but I learned that milia are tiny little cholesterol deposits which are underneath the skin and therefor not removable by exfoliation. They can be removed by a medical professional and I vaguely remember that there is an aesthetician's procedure which can deal with them (but I can't remember what, it was ultra expensive). I remember then saying though that milia are frequently mis-diagnosed so if you're even slightly not sure, are you able to check it out with a medic before tackling it? Good luck with it.
Re: homemade mask for milia treatment?
Yes- go to a pro at least the first time around, if only for a proper diagnosis. Essentially when an esthetician gets rid of them they poke them with a sterile lancet, and then use an extraction tool to get rid of the gunk inside. Sometimes people have something called keritosis pilaris which looks a little like milia, but if you poke it, it bleeds- not cool. To get rid of KP it just requires additional hydration and AHA's are good for that. Scrubbing just hurts, and doesn't really do any good in either situation.
Here's a Youtube video of extractions:

Thanks for the link - they run in my family so I am pretty sure they are actually milia. Can't afford the derm but I'll ask him to do the extractions when I go in for my annual skin cancer exam. Thanks!
