Laurie, there are vets in my area that I *much* prefer. My trouble was timing ~ & having vets booked solid. The let's-clean-his-teeth-*&*-your-pockets vet took me in because our other 2 cats go there...ONLY because he's the closest, lol. THOSE 2 wail like stuck pigs the whole way ~ I FULLY understand why the term "caterwauling" was coined. Seriously, the other 2 go together for their yearly checkups & shots...it's always REALLY traumatic for all 4 of us, hehe. We put the cat carriers facing each other in the back seat of my car & for the entire (maybe 6 miles) they howl back & forth. By the time we get home we are nervous wrecks. True!

I may very well look into switching vets.

Mikie, please remember that vets, like doctors, have paid a small fortune for vet school, and it takes a long time to pay that off. Just like a dentist pushing tooth whitening, braces, veneers, etc., they are going to recommend what they think will be good for the cat and play on the owners need to do what's best for kitty. (And isn't it amazing the money we'll spend on our little darlings!) We, as "patients", need to do our research and know going in what we are willing to spend on a pet. I'm very lucky to have a vet who will be honest with me about what's best for the animal at the time and doesn't push the "niceties". I did a little websearching and found an interesting site about polydactyl cats. Here's the link: http://www.messybeast.com/poly-cats.html. Many of them learn to use their extra toes like opposable thumbs! That could add some real excitement to the mmu hockey games! :o Lauren

Lauren, that was fascinating!!! Thank you! Funny, I *saw* Silky/LilBits/Slick pick something up as though he had thumbs ~ it happened awhile before he came to live with me. We were watching him play in the parking lot & he'd found something fascinating, & suddenly he was on his haunches holding whatever it was with both paws...up in the air like he was praying or studying it closely. I'd never seen a cat do that & was amazed.

I know it sounded as though I have little respect for this vet but it's not true. There was an excellent vet there to whom we took our animals for many, many years. When he retired, it was a huge loss. This vet who bought the business just doesn't...I don't know...mix with me? We're like oil & water. He's had other partners there who've come & gone..& I *liked* them,lol...

It's just a personality clash, I guess you'd say. I'm straightforward & he's glib. There's another vet I trust MUCH more readily & I think I'll look into switching all 3 cats to her if/when she can work me in. It just means listening to the on-the-way yowling longer.

Silky saving my spot on the sunporch for me, LOL! He's there when I leave for work, & he's back on there when I get home 10 hours later.

Same spot,LOL! Mommy's chair! ;) Big brother Abie grooming Silky. The 2 boys GOT A MOUSE yesterday & were playing field hockey in my kitchen! Yikes!

Silky went to the vet's Monday & got the rest of his shots. Now he's set for a year. Appt for neutering (only) on Wednesday. Vet agrees that we can wait on the toes thing & see whether it'll be fine with home maintenance. Silky is settling in nicely.

They get along famously, Jen! The way Abie & Silky wrestle & throw each other around  you'd swear they'd hurt each other, but there's *no* sound out of either of them except all the thumping of their bodies,LOL! They FLY through the house after each other, skate/skid on the kitchen floor; they are NUTS! I call them my madmen ;-). My older girl kitty (Willie) just ignores their antics. This house is REALLY lived in now, LOL!

Today Silky goes into the hospital to be neutered, & I will pick him up tomorrow after work. It'll be VERY quiet & lonely here without him tonight. I am *certain* Abie will be wailing & checking every nook & cranny for his brother. LOVE watching Abie groom him, sigh...sweet sight.

I am *ever so grateful* that this is working out!

I certainly *did* give him kisses when he came home, Laurie! He has won us ALL over! I *just* took this pic of him after he'd gotten a drink from "their" water fountain,LOL! Our babies are just *so sweet*, all 3 of them! The other 2 are more difficult to get pics of because as soon as they see me they start walking toward me, hehe.

He looks beautiful, Mikie. You've done a wonderful job bringing him around. You'd never guess from looking at him that he had a "troubled childhood." Interesting that Abie took to him so quickly. Whenever we've brought in new miniature horses, our Tennessee Walker always looks after our oldest one. Clyde is perfectly capable of taking care of himself, but I think Norm (TW) enjoys being the "henchman"! It's especially fun to see them bond when they are different species - dog and cat, cat and horse, horse and crow...I had friends who had a turkey named Blanche (who was supposed to be dinner). Blanche bonded with the draft horse, and they were everywhere together. She'd sit on his back, or pick up the grain that he dropped. What a pair! Unfortunately, Blanche did not bond so well with the tractor.....You can guess the rest.

Funny how different species bond, though, isn't it? My mother's lhasa apso (Sammy) & siamese (Simon) were grand buddies, both often vying for my mother's lap,LOL!

What I cannot get over is the absolute trust that I see in Silky's eyes; it just warms my heart. Every day he gets a little braver & discovers new places to nap.He hasn't approached hubby yet but no longer flees under the recliner whenever dh walks into a room, so we're making progress!

Today's the 1st time I've seen Silky at the fountain (he has his own water dishes in 2 rooms) so his big brother Abie must've showed him the ropes, hehe. In no time flat he'll be lapping from the *stream of water* the way the other 2 do.
