Reading any good books

Dec. I will share the Dark Hunter ones with a friend at work so it should justify buying them. I saw a couple
Sherrilyn Kenyon books at Wal Mart yesterday but of course don't know which ones they are. I am glad Amazon
tells exactly which series they are and what number so I know!

(not too worry I will put this in the right post as well) I got twlight for my birthday but kelley armstrong and sherrilyn kenyon both have books at the mo and I just had to read them first - sorry but after those its on my list. I want to read it before I see the movie, which comes out in england on 19/12/08. I'm taking my little sister (who loves vampire and the supernatural just as much as I do ) to see it. We always make sure we go see a film at the cinemas at xmas.

Oh trust me Karmen you won't be disappointed with dark hunter series. I haven't read dragon swan yet so let me know if that’s good. The new book out of the dark hunter series is One Silent Night and its book 14 in the series so you have away to go - but oh what a ride it is. Yes I share mine with my mother, which is to say I buy them, she reads them first then I do lol.

So, I've finally read a few of the Dark Hunter books. The story line is really good and it is hard to put them down once you get going on them! I will admit they're not what I usually read but the story line definitely keeps me interested. I did skip out of order just a bit because they had Night Embrace at Walmart the other day so I grabbed it and therefore skipped over Night Pleasures for the moment. Walmart has some random ones but doesn't have all of them. I saw they had "One Silent Night" there as well as one or two others. I have to check a couple other places to see if I can find a few more of them in stores and see if I can avoid ordering all of them online. I'm sure I'll keep going on them now because of course now I'm interested in the story. I can tell a couple more of the stories that will be coming up from a few comments that have been made in the one I'm reading now.
Dragon Swan is a very short little book. It isn't really a Dark Hunter story (Acheron isn't in it) but it does tie in because it explains more about the Katagari and the slayers, etc. The characters are Channon and Sebastian - not sure if they'll show up again, or not?

Hey karmen

Soooooo glad you like the dark hunter books (yes one down, rest of the planet to go. That's right, I'm going to convert every single one of you ). I am half way through Twilight and it's bloody fantastic!!!!!!!. I was hooked after 30 pages. I haven't smiled so much on the bus in a long time. In fact at one point I actually laughed out loud and people turned around to look at me (still puts a smile on my face now )

I'm going to see twilight at the cinemas on the 20th Dec, can't wait. I was sick a couple of weeks ago, I was off work for a week so I spent my time watching the 5 Harry Potter movies on DVD. As I was watching them, there were a few things that got me confused. So when I got back I asked my supervisor (she's read them all) to clear things up for me. Well I realised that I was missing out on a lot of things, so I've decided I asked my mum to get me the entire collection for xmas. So I have that to look forward to (of course as well as the rest of the twilight series).

I have finished the twilight book just in time to see it this saturday to see it at the cinemas and OH MY GOD what a great book. Where was this book when I was a kid, someone please tell me!!!!!!

For those of you who enjoyed the twilight book, you might want to check out two other books that I think you'd be interested in.

1) Wicked Lovely by Mellisa Marr - here is a description I found on amazon:

I am at a serious lack of anything to read at the moment. After finishing the Twilight series I can't find anything else I like as well. The Dark Hunters are not available here in the correct order unless I order them all from Amazon. Same thing for those 2 books Sarah suggested in the post above. I hate to keep ordering everything from Amazon because it gets expensive quickly. I would rather have something I can find at Walmart or Target, or of course the library, which is hit and miss here, but that's another story. If it is something that's fairly popular but older, I could probably get it at the library though. They just don't seem to have much that I want these days though. I was there the other day and they had a couple of the Dark Hunters in large print but none in regular print. For some reason I just found that hilarious. When I think of large print I think of older ladies with thick glasses who need cataract surgery and I think of them reading the Dark Hunters - I don't know. anyway -
I heard of some books somewhere that sounded like something I might like - Emily Giffin - something borrowed, something blue? I think. Anyone read these? or have any other suggestions? I am hoping to go to Target or Walmart today and maybe they'll have those Emily Giffin books. I think there's a new Nicholas Sparks out too? Those get a little sappy but they're okay. I get mixed up between Sparks and when James Patterson writes the more romance ones (like "Sam's letters to Jennifer" or whatever it was) because I find the style of writing almost the same. Too scary or too sad or emotionally draining are a definite no for me. I would never have picked up the Twilights but for the fact that someone who knows what I like to read told me I'd probably like them.

ETA - I found the Emily Giffin books pretty easily at Target - I got the "something borrowed" so I will post back after I read it and let you girls know how it is. I have some weather forecasts in my email for tomorrow that don't sound too good, so I guess it's good that I have something to read?!

Dredging up this old thread to say that I just read the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series by Rick Riordan. Really liked this, a lot. It is very Harry Potter-ish but not as long or dark or complicated. I never would've picked these up if a friend hadn't told me about them, and I really enjoyed them. There are 5 in the series.
Now I just started "Evermore" by Allyson Noel. I think I'll finish it but so far it's quite reminiscent of Twilight, maybe w/out the vampires though.
I also read another of Sarah's suggestions - "Wicked Lovely" by Melissa Marr. I enjoyed it but I am having a hard time getting into the 2nd book in that series, "Ink Exchange." I think the 3rd book "Fragile Eternity" is an actual sequel to Wicked Lovely, while Ink Exchange is sort of a takeoff but not the same main characters. I may skip it and go on to the 3rd book, and try the 2nd again after that. Have you read these Sarah?
I am also trying to pick up a few Nicholas Sparks books I've missed along the way. I just read "The Lucky One" and have "Dear John" to read next.
I have a lot of reading time during the summer! I have a little girl who would live at the pool if I'd let her, so I get lots of reading in while she swims!

Please let me know how you liked the Lucky One, I'm getting ready to read The Choice, also by Nicholas Sparks. I just finished the Other Queen by Phillipia Gregory, before that I read the Boelyn Inheritance also by Phillipia Gregory. Earlier in the spring I read Water for Elephants, I can't remember who wrote it, but since I work in a nursing home, I enjoyed this very delightful tale of a nursing home resident who ran away with the circus in his youth and in now telling his story. Some the early chapters reflect life in nursing home all to well, and the book is a very easy read. The activites department is now reading it to the residents, and they are loving it, and it is sparking lots of dicussion on the hobo caps,the depression etc.

I'm interested in reading some books on the Salam Witch Trials, but haven't found any historical fiction ones as of yet. I think I'll read the Percy Jackson books also, since I know of at least 3 people who have given them good recommendations.

The Lucky One was pretty good - it has an element of suspense to it that I don't recall as much in his other books. I did want to keep reading to see what was going to happen. I read a bit of Dear John last night. The Lucky One has quite a bit of military basis to the story and it appears Dear John is going to be the same and probably more so. For that reason I doubt either one of these is going to end up being my favorite from him as that is not my favorite topic to read about. I read The Choice awhile back too, maybe a year or so ago. The stories tend to run together but if it is the one I remember I don't think that I agreed with his choice but???? LOL
I do have to say that the last few Sparks books I've read all have the main characters in their 20's or 30 at most. Beings that I am past that age myself it is making me a little paranoid! Ha. I guess the characters in Nights in Rodanthe were past that age though.
You won't regret reading Percy Jackson - highly enjoyable, all of them.

I finished Dear John at the pool today (by Nicholas Sparks.) It made me cry, a couple times. I thought it was going to be a lot about 9/11 and it was, but yet it wasn't. I have to go back and check what other books of his I've missed.
